Introduction-to-Sewing Workshops - The Sewing Basics

Learning to Sew Introduction to Sewing (and fashion)!
The best of fashion begins with the basics -- fabric, thread and you! There is no better place to start than right here by learning to sew for yourself.
In this two plus hour class you will learn all about your sewing machine AND finish your first project!
With this beginning -- and some practice -- you can "graduate" to ever more complicated and intricate projects. Over time, you'll be making those designer dresses with fabric we carry at Just Make it Sew. Take for example clothing by designer Eileen Fisher. At Bloomingdale's, a skirt, top or jacket could cost you $100 to $300 or more. With our help, you could make it yourself for a fraction of the cost, maybe even using a designer fabric found in our shop.
Get started today by joining us in this Introduction-to-Sewing -- and fashion workshop. Available for ages 8 thru adult. Class size is limited. Cost $50.00 per student, fabric not included. Sign up here and start your sewing journey today.

Skill Builder - Series

Once you've taken the Introduction to Sewing Class, you may want to expand your sewing skills. The Skill Builder - Series is a project series geared towards teaching you the additional skills you need to continue your sewing journey.

In the Skill Builder series, you choose from a variety of projects and sign up for blocks of hours to continue learning and advancing your sewing skills. The projects shown below are a sample of some of the projects you can choose from...

The beret pictured above is a good skill builder project. In this project, you'll learn to make your own pattern, sew curves and mold the beret to your head. A JMIS exclusive project, it was inspired by a recent trip to Paris and is similar to one shown in Dior's fall ready-to-wear collection. Allow approx. 2 to 2.5 hours to complete this project.

Make a pattern using your own measurements and make this reverse applique skirt. Besides learning reverse applique techniques, in this project you'll learn to work with knits, learn to use a fold-over elastic to make a waist band, hemming, and more. Allow approx. 2.5 to 3 hours to complete this project.

The third item pictured above is a sweater based on a "Named" pattern. In this project, you'll learn to "recycle" a sweater or sweatshirt or make it "fresh" as a new article. It would be a great way to update an article of clothing. In this project you'll learn how to follow a pattern, finish off edges using a bias binding, etc. This is a fun and not-to-difficult pattern that is a season-less style. Allow approx. 2 to 2.5 hours to complete this project.

The last of the item pictured above is fabulous jacket. A slightly more advanced project, it would be a great first jacket to make. Flattering on most figures, you'll learn how to sew a two-piece collar, set in a sleeve, create a back pleat, do button holes and more. While you will need to allow approx. 6 hours or more to complete this project . With our direction, assignments can be given so that some of this work can be done on your own or at home and not use lesson time.

You'll love making and wearing these projects and best of all, when people ask you where you bought it you can say, "I made it myself!".

Ready to continue your sewing journey? The Sewing Basic series is designed as an individual lesson series. Projects/Lessons are scheduled and paid for as individual lessons. For your best value, we recommend purchasing either a block of five or block of ten one-hour lessons and continue your sewing journey or call us to schedule your date today!

All classes and workshops are subject to the Just Make it Sew class policy.
