Individual Lesson - 1 Hour Building Blocks of Style - Part II Building Blocks of Style - Make a (T-Shirt) Sloper Introduction to Sewing (and fashion)

This is a 1 hour individual lesson for your student -- or maybe even yourself. Learn the basics, brush up on your skills or learn an advanced sewing technique. Sign up below and we'll call you to schedule your time. Pictured here is a younger student with the vest she made for her American Girl Doll during an individual lesson. Lesson cannot be scheduled for less than one hour. Single individual lessons are not available virtually unless pre-approved by JMIS.

Is your young sewist interested in Fashion Design? Have they taken one or more of the Design & Create series with us? Have they expressed an interest in Fashion Design?

This is the second workshop in our "Building Blocks of Style" where we introduced your sewist to a real taste of fashion design, pattern making and finished project.

In the first workshop we introduced your budding designer to making their own T-Shirt sloper. In this workshop we'll take the sloper that was designed in the first part and make a finished project based on the "Sloper". The advantages of making your own sloper are that you make a pattern that is tailored to your own body measurements and shape. The result is a finished product that not only fits, but fits tailored to you! With a completed sloper, it can be used to make any number of different styles of garment, using the basic sloper as the initial building block of the person's individual style.

This class is available to students ages 11 and above. Students must be able to use a ruler, understand measurements, fractions, and have sewn with us before. Those signing up for this workshop will receive the following items as part of the class: a mechanical pencil, a french curve ruler, a clear straight ruler and pattern making paper.

The "Building Blocks of Style" is a potential two-part workshop where we introduce your sewist to a real taste of fashion design and pattern making.

In this workshop we'll introduce your budding designer to making their own T-Shirt Sloper. A "Sloper" is a basic pattern for creating new designs. A Sloper is a paper representation of your body measurements and the first step in pattern making without fullness, design details, and without seam allowances. The advantages of making your own sloper are that you make a base pattern that is tailored to your own body measurements and shape. The result, when combined with design details, is a finished product that not only fits, but fits tailored to you! Once completed, the sloper can be used to make any number of different styles of garment, using the basic sloper as the initial building block of the person's individual style.

A self-contained workshop (everything will be completed in this one workshop), students in this class will complete their own sloper which, if combined with the second part, will make their own garment using one of the fabrics we have in the shop to check fit and make a completed sample. To sign up for the second part where you make your own sample

Design and Create -- The Fashion Design Camp! is our 2022 summer sewing camp theme. This year, we will be focusing on designing, making and sewing items inspired by a trip to Greek Isles.

As part of this year's "Create and Design - The Fashion Design Camp!", your young sewist will have fun making new friends, sewing up a storm and being the first to make their own fashionable and classic outfits. YOU, are cordially invited to join Just Make it Sew as we explore fashion and sewing. We end each week of camp with a display of finished projects that -- like previous years -- will be shared on Facebook and Instagram. If the girls are interested, they can even do their own fashion runway.

Bella Rose Designs! Our summer camps are appropriate for aspiring sewista's from ages 8 to 17. We will offer a few advanced projects for our advanced, returning and more experienced sewists. A number of this year's projects will allow each sewista to choose from among various design options that will allow them to express their creativity -- and showcase their own style. Besides having fun, making new or renewing old friendships and learning basic or new sewing skills, we will make up to 3 or 4 items listed.

Bias cut garments hang delicately on your body and offers stretch, softness and flexibility in a woven fabric. Patterns cut on the bias skim the body in a more flattering way. Sewing on the biasBy sewing on the bias you can make the simplest of patterns look and feel elegant and sumptuous. In the item pictured here, the skirt has both a silky and flowy appearance, simply by cutting the fabric and sewing on-the-bias.

As a first project, we are suggesting you sew your own skirt in a woven fabric like the one pictured here.
